The Purpose
The Worship Ministry at MBC strives to honor God by incorporating art, beauty, and creativity in our worship services. We desire to create an avenue of focus, worshipping corporately and individually in spirit and truth, speaking the truth in love and reflecting His glory. I am always open for new interest and involvement in the Worship Ministry. If you would like to learn more about serving with us please feel free to contact me anytime. We have a number of different teams, and I'm happy to see what (and who) God has in store for us.
The Teams
- The Music Team(s) is made up of vocalist and instrumentalists who effort to corporately facilitate a passionate focus on God by modeling an attitude and expression of worship through music.
- The Production Teams are made up of individuals who effort to produce and maintain high quality in the audio, video and lighting categories during our corporate gatherings.
- The Programming Team is made up of creative thinkers who effort to develop and design and atmosphere of beauty and creativity through corporate events, the physical design and transition coordination.
- The Drama Team is made up of creative actors/actresses who effort to communicate solid Biblical teaching and principles by means of dramatic skits, emotional plays, hilarious shorts and short monologs.
- The Youth Worship Team is made up of youth who desire to honor God by serving and leading other youth (and sometimes adults, too) in worship.
- The Children's Worship Team is made up of adults and/or youth who desire to encourage, facilitate and instill a God honoring heritage of passionate focus on God through music and singing.
The 7 Principles
- We all are worship leaders. We all share the responsibility to do that well. We work hard, we play hard and we strive to lead our church family to passionately focus on God and worship Him together in spirit and truth.
- We are a team. We find no greater value in the older or younger, the richer or poorer, the more or less talented, the soloist or the choir, or even the ugly or the less ugly. We serve as a team, we operate as a team, there is no 'me' in team… unless you change the spelling order and leave out a couple of letters.
- Humility is key. This is not about us, rather we are serving God, and as is often the case we do so by serving others. There is no room for rock-stars in this ministry. Our hearts and minds, instruments and voices, ought to all point to God alone. Our unofficial motto stands: It's not about me, it's not about me, it's still not about me.
- Pursue excellence. In the MBC Worship Ministry there is no expectation of perfection. Perfection is bondage while excellence allows for pursuit of Godliness. We strive for excellence in art, beauty and creativity before and for our great God.
- Fear God alone. Don't fear critiques, suggestions or evaluations. Be willing to make and receive these (critiques, suggestions and/or evaluations) for artistic and performance quality. We all need these things for improvement and development. We need these to press toward excellence.
- Speak the truth in love. In our pursuit to become more like Christ we are explicitly commanded to speak the truth in love. The flip side of the coin seems to be the more difficult, especially in the creative arts world. Hear the truth in love (critiques, suggestions and/or evaluations), without holding a grudge and certainly without developing or harboring bitterness. Always remember, we are pressing toward excellence as a team!
- Grow up in Christ. Just because we are apart of the creative arts doesn't exempt us from maturing and growing in our relationship with Christ. Pursue abiding with Christ, pursue discipleship and mentoring, pursue knowledge of the Word and doctrine, pursue accountability and pursue God's calling on your life.
